Too much fun.

Ok, I so wish I could figure out how to put this font on this blog, but in the meantime, as I am a huge fan of sarcasm.  And since you can't express it in the written word and I don't think there is a sarcasm smiley (could be wrong), check out this web site.  I downloaded it immediately!

Sarcastic Font

Now I just have to figure out how I can make it work on here.  I am so freaking good at HTML.(see perfect place for sarcastic font!)

December Kit

OK, so this kit is too much fun and with the way life works, I am not getting nearly enough time to play with it.  The stamp making aspects of this kit create almos endless possibilities.  Watch the heat though they do have their limits.  For the reveal projects I used buttons, elastics, the plastic mesh, but for this project I used my dh's car tire.  Yep, the car tire.  I took my heat gun and penscore outside, heated it up, wiped the stones off of the tire and pressed away.  The results, Awesome!

Cool no?  I was totally thrilled with the results.  I also had fun trying to create an edgy layout using paper with lily pads on it, but voila!  You can always use the other side.  I used a photo that was blurry to start with and added some digital overlays from Cottage arts.  I actually used the same overlay twice.  Once as an overlay and the second time as a colour dodge.  I was quite happy with the results.  Lesson, even the photos you think are crummy can be used as the basis for something interesting in the digital world.
Keep Scrapping!

A couple of Layouts

Here's something
I did with the November Kit.

I had to capture all the fall colours in the garden, especially the japanese maple which had turned into living fire.  Good thing I took the pictures when I did, because two days later, all the leaves were on the ground.  Fitting in 14 photos was a challenge, but I decided to cascade them across the two pages and add very little embellishment.  The embossing plates were perfect for creating simple, organic pieces that added to the pictures. I love scrapping multiple photos and there are so many ways to combine them.

New Kit at Scraptivity

Yay!  It's the first day of a new month and the first day of a new kit reveal and shortly next month's sneak peak.  I love the Core'dinations cardstock in this month's kit.  It's so versatile.  Besides all the normal things cardstock usually is capable of, the  coloured core of the Core'dinations allows sanding, distressing, and embossing to create something special.  Lots of fun!

Feminists Use the Washing Machine

Well, I just pulled my bra out of my new bra bag designed to protect my dainty underthing from the horrors of the washing machine and it came out all pilled.  Stupid piece of crap!!!!  The bra not the bag.  The bra says to wash by hand.  What and get my corset dirty?!?  I own about 12 bras at a time and if I know a big trip is coming up I won't throw some away so I can get up to 15 or 16 and I chuck them on the trip.  I DO NOT, NOR HAVE I EVER "RINSED" OUT MY UNDERTHINGS!!!  I do not plan to start now.
Now here's the part I don't understand.  Women tell me they rinse their things all the time.  On like a daily basis.  Why?  No man in his right mind would wear underwear that needs to be hand washed.  He may on a trip decide to go that route, after wearing them right side then wrong side out first, but on a daily basis never.  His time is far too valuable.  Regardless, of what the actual value of his time is.  Why can't women get that?  Why do we agree to rent our clothes by buying stuff that can only be worn once and then has to be dry cleaned.  Why?  You want to be equal, stop buying into these stupid notions of feminity and use the damn washing machine.  Tell the store clerk that your time is valuable and you want something machine washable.
Hand wash my butt, and thats all I hand wash.

EMU! Yum?

So I had Emu for thanksgiving dinner.  Yep, that's a little different.  It was pretty good though.  Lean and beef-like, it was tender and juicy.  Kind of weird though eating a meat you've never had before.  You never know what it's going to taste like, how the texture is going to be.  It's a complete surprise, even when you have some expectation.  You've been told beef, you look it up and get told beef, it even looks like beef, but your head, your logical, know-it-all head says, bird.  It makes me wonder what goes on in the heads of tofu-meat eaters that allows them to think meat when they know, believe and are committed to the fact that they are eating tofu.  Interesting.

Wow, so I am four weeks into class and so far so good.  I have an essay due in a little under 2 weeks.  That will be a little bit of a challenge.  Philosophy is a whole new kettle of fish for me and so there will be a whole heck of a lot of anxiety when I hand this one in.  I am invested in getting good marks.  It's one of the things I promised myself.  I would work hard and get good marks. So a little finger nail biting and self directed cheerleader sessions of "I can do this!" will be happening. Wish me luck!

Mushrooms

A couple of weeks ago we spent some time at a friend's cottage.  It was lovely and had the hubby and I questioning our life choices.  Should we get a cottage, should we buy a boat, do we really want to drive that far regularly.  Fortunately, sense prevailed.  The concensus, great place to visit, but I wouldn't want to own one.  The experiencewas so good though, that we did have to reexamine this conclusion.

While there we saw these really cool mushrooms and to commemorate the trip I made some stained glass mushrooms as a thank you gift.

HEY MAYOR OF TORONTO, DAVID MILLER

I am so glad that in the midst of an economic meltdown, cuts in TTC service, 4% (twice inflation) tax increase, that you and your minions have found a way to waste my money in a blatant, open and totally easy to berate way. CREEK Signs! Yes, I am sure it didn't cost millions of dollars, but really, do we need a sign for the Don River on the Millwood Bridge? How about Mud Creek, the glorified ditch at the Brick Works? How much did this cost? I think our waterways would be better served by having more people on buses. If it cost the same as running one more bus, it was a waste. And where the hell are the "investigative reporters"? Asleep at their news service wires as usual. Who is going to hold this council accountable? You know if this kind of thing is going on openly, what is going on below the surface? David Miller you are a joke of a Mayor. Grow a set, do something, stand for something, stand up to someone (Union leaders maybe). But since your only skill is laying low, I can only hope that eventually you will go away.

Beginner Ski Resorts

Exams are done and all the news so far has been good, so we'll go with that for now. Ski season is in full swing. We're still in our stamina building phase of the season and since I did a number on my hip and knee slipping on ice around Christmas, we are still frequenting the smaller resorts. We went to Snow Valley over the holidays and 4 hours was more than enough. By the end of that amount of time we'd done all there was to do. We did try to do a full day at Mt. St. Louis Moonstone. Well we got a full day's worth of skiing in, only it only took about 3 hours. It was quiet, only one chalet was open. Don't ask which, I can't ever remember which is which. We did circuit after circuit, down the hill and up the chair in roughly 5 minutes. WOW!
The next weekend we went to Horseshoe. Wow, but for totally different reasons. Huge lineups for tickets, huge lineups at the lifts, lineups in the chalet to get a table in the lunch room, no table later to have hot chocolate and masses of people everywhere. The beginner runs were so crowded they were dangerous. For the first time in over a decade of regular skiing I was hit. A skier behind me hit me as I was going around a class. Fortunately, the moguls were quiet and as I set myself the goal of learning to ski them this year, it worked out. My view of humanity suffered however.
This past weekend we went to Glen Eden. Our past experience with this hill was favourable and as we got a late start, we decided not to go too far. Again, hordes of people. Most of them appeared to be beginners and on top of that, one of the lifts was closed. The lineups were interminable. My hips and knees started to ache from standing in ski boots and skis so long. There was some comedy though. At the front of each lift line, an employee directed the skiers in order that each chair went up full in order to keep the line moving. One person from the singles line would be paired up with a trio, two pairs placed together, etc. Well we were told to follow in when we noticed that this guy had jumped the queue and was going to be the fifth person on a four person chair. We told him he was supposed to wait, but he said he needed to join his family, who was already on a lift. How he proposed to do this, I have no idea. We let him go as we were having no impact on his counting skills and he ended up on a chair by himself. He didn't pull down the safety bar and when instructed to do so by the operators now below him, he turned and took their picture. He finally figured that out and in the process lost one of his poles. We just howled. Dearest husband pointed out that he had the trifecta of inappropriate ski behaviour, 1. He didn't know what he was doing, 2. English was clearly not his first language so figuring out the instructions others were giving him was a problem, and 3. He was completely oblivious as simple observation (we were standing in those lines forever) would have cleared up his lack of knowledge. Oh well for us he will always be Mr. Camera.
